Dear Governor Evers and Director Poitra,

I am writing to you today to request that you deny the application by the Menominee Tribe for the proposed off-reservation casino in Kenosha.

Earlier this year, the Kenosha Common Council and County Board of Supervisors rushed through an Intergovernmental Agreement that lacked critical details/protections for citizens – details that are otherwise required by local ordinance for every zoning applicant such as a traffic study, crime study, and local economic impact study.

Citizens as well as local elected officials were told they would lose their ability to negotiate the IGA if they waited for these studies to be completed and then later learned the IGA could be negotiated even after the application was approved by the BIA.

They were also told that the BIA would not approve the application if the IGA included the Seminole Tribe as a binding party in the IGA along with the Menominee Tribe, which also turned out to be untrue.

Wisconsin has an over-saturated casino market, and, if approved, this casino will have a negative impact on Kenosha and the surrounding communities. Wisconsin citizens don’t have sufficient information to determine what the Tribe is actually proposing, what the impact of the casino will be or any mechanism to mitigate damages caused by incomplete information.

This casino should be mutually beneficial. The rush to approve the IGA before pertinent details are known, the deceit in information provided to Kenosha citizens and local elected officials, and the shroud of secrecy surrounding this deal certainly make this whole deal questionable.

Please say no to the Kenosha Casino. Kenosha citizens at least deserve details on how this casino will impact us.
